Your wedding day may fly by, but your grand exit is one of the last memories you’ll make together and one of the most photographed moments of the evening. If you’re looking for how to have the perfect grand exit, you’ve come to the right place.
As wedding planners, we’ve seen hundreds of sendoffs, and we’ve learned that a little planning goes a long way. From understanding your venue’s rules to avoiding one common mistake nearly every couple makes, these simple tips will help you create a sendoff that’s both beautiful and stress-free.

Before you fall in love with sparklers, flower petals, bubbles, or confetti, check with your venue to see what’s allowed. Every venue has different policies, and in some cases those rules are even determined by local or county regulations.
Your venue contract is usually the best place to start. If you don’t see the information there, reach out to your venue coordinator for clarification before purchasing any exit supplies.
Taking this extra step early in the planning process can save you money, prevent last-minute surprises, and ensure your sendoff goes exactly as you envision.

If there’s one piece of wedding grand exit advice we wish every couple would follow, it’s this:
Please don’t run.
We know—it looks romantic in the movies. But from a planner’s and photographer’s perspective, running makes it incredibly difficult to capture those joyful, magazine-worthy images you’ll treasure forever.
Instead, walk slowly and soak in the moment.
Even better? Pause halfway through your exit.
Give your guests one more memorable moment by stopping for a kiss, sharing a twirl (think Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail), or letting your new spouse dip you dramatically before continuing on your way. Your guests will love it, and your photographer will capture some of the most iconic images of the entire day.
Trust us, future you will be so glad you slowed down.

One of our favorite wedding planning tips actually happens before the grand exit.
While your planner gathers guests outside, hands out exit items, and organizes everyone into place, you’ll often have a few quiet minutes together inside the venue. For many couples, it’s the first time they’ve been alone all day.
We always encourage couples to make the most of it.
Ask your DJ to replay your first dance song while everyone is getting into position. Enjoy one last private dance, share a hug, laugh about your favorite moments of the day, or simply take a deep breath together before stepping outside.
When everything is ready, your planner and photographer will come back to escort you to the doors. Not only does this create a genuinely meaningful memory, but it also gives your photographer the opportunity to capture intimate images that often become some of a couple’s favorite photographs from the entire wedding day.
Just be sure to let your planner, photographer, and DJ know ahead of time that you’d like to include this special moment in your timeline.

Your wedding sendoff doesn’t have to be elaborate to be unforgettable. With a little planning, a good understanding of your venue’s policies, and the confidence to slow down and enjoy the moment, your grand exit can become one of the highlights of your wedding day.
After all, your wedding isn’t about rushing to the finish line; it’s about savoring every moment together, including the very last one.
